About the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.
We are a value-driven organisation that strives to be part of a change movement that supports people seeking asylum by providing critical services such as assistance with accommodation, food provisions, casework and legal services.
The ASRC movement is proudly supported by a community of committed volunteers and supporters who embrace the organisation’s vision that people seeking asylum can live safely, sustainably, independently and equally.
Our Values
The human rights of people seeking asylum and refugees are at the foundation of all we do and the workforce makes it happen, doing the work to bring the vision and purpose to life.
Our organisational values are:
- Welcoming
- Authentic
- Courageous
- Collaborative
About The Role
This position is the primary point of contact for employee engagement and empowerment activities, facilitating employee integration and connection to the social enterprises and broader ASRC programs. This position plays a key role in providing wrap-around support mechanisms to the Social Enterprise employees to secure relationships that result in both employment outcomes and broader support networks for a diverse range of people seeking asylum and refugee challenges, and the development of referral processes.
Additionally, this position works closely with the Social Enterprise Director and SE member employees to develop individualised pathway development plans which will capture the members’ strengths and ambitions and will outline a plan for developing the skills and experience they need to achieve their goals within the enterprises as well as for their future career opportunities.
About You
- Proven experience in employee engagement and pathway development planning
- An understanding of the barriers, social justice, cultural sensitivity and inclusion facing disadvantaged groups, specifically people with lived or living experience of seeking asylum
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of employment and caseworker support coordination
- Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive assessment, identifying barriers to employment success and development and implementation of individualised pathway development plans
- Proven ability to motivate and empower staff to advocate for themselves and advocate and negotiate on their behalf where required
- Proven experience successfully working with teams to achieve team targets/results
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain rapport with stakeholders across different areas of responsibility
- Demonstrated personal integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, self-organised and methodical, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- High level of initiative and ability to work independently
- Flexibility and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
Lived experience of seeking asylum in Australia is highly desirable. Knowledge of policy and issues impacting on people seeking asylum in Australia as well as previous experience working within a not-for-profit environment, would also be advantageous.
