**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services (RACS) is a vibrant and diverse Division within Canberra Health Services providing multidisciplinary rehab, aged and community based care across a range of settings. This includes University of Canberra Hospital, Aged Care wards at the Canberra Hospital, Community Health Centres and Village Creek Centre in Kambah. The University of Canberra Hospital (UCH), Specialist Centre for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research is located on the grounds of the University of Canberra. The hospital, the ACT’s first sub-acute rehabilitation hospital, provides a variety of inpatient, day, ambulatory and community-based rehabilitation services. Allied Health assistants (AHAs) work within all of these settings delivering rehabilitation programs as part of the Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech pathology teams, or within the interprofessional Allied Health team comprising Brindabella Day and Ambulatory Rehabilitation Services.

All teams have a focus on improving patients’ independence, and ability to engage in activities and their community. They provide rehabilitation for persons with a range of conditions and injuries, including neurological disorders, amputations, musculoskeletal injuries, and chronic conditions. All AHAs work under the direct or indirect supervision of an Allied Health Professional (AHP) and play a key role in the day to day functioning of the team in which they work. They are provided with regular clinical supervision and access to education and training. Therapy can be provided to individuals or in group settings.

Allied Health Assistants in RACS work flexibly across services, and locations where services are offered and may be required to participate in a weekend roster.

As well as the permanent position on offer, a merit list will be created from this recruitment round which may be used to fill future temporary or permanent AHA2 positions across RACS for the next 12 months (both full time or part time).

**DUTIES**:
Under limited direction of the RACS Physiotherapy Manager you will perform clinical, administrative and educational duties related to the care and wellbeing of CHS consumers and staff. You will:

- Implement/supervise treatment programs with patients, clients, consumers and groups under direction from the supervising AHP, communicating with the client and the team to ensure their needs are met and unusual circumstances are acted upon safely.
- Supply and screen for appropriate appliances/preparations to patient/client/consumer under direction from the supervising AHP.
- Contribute to the patient, client and/or consumer health record according to Canberra Health Service policy and procedures and the Territory Records Act 2002.
- Assist with quality improvement activities and service developments under the guidance of supervising AHP.
- Contribute to a range of indirect clinical activities including but not limited to:

- Development of resources for patient, client and consumer use.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained according to maintenance schedule.
- Monitor and maintain stores and equipment inventories.
- Assist with quality improvement activities and service developments.
- Actively engage with educational opportunities -including essential education, orientation requirements and opportunities to achieve advanced AHA competencies including participation in professional supervision.
- Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care.
