Sydney, Australia NSW Health Full time

The NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Care Navigator Service is recruiting 9.0 FTE Care Navigators (full time and part time work available) ahead of VAD commencement on 28 November 2023. Two intakes of Care Navigators are planned over August to mid-October.

You will primarily be providing direct support to callers (patients, families, health professionals and the public) who contact the service during business hours. You will be a key liaison point for patients, clinicians and other health professionals wanting to access the VAD process and will be in daily contact with Authorised Practitioners, Local Health Districts and a range of services required by patients and their families as they navigate this end-of-life option. There will also be some travel to patients’ homes accompanying pharmacists and Authorised Practitioners from the state-wide VAD services.

You will be either an experienced nurse (with current registration) or allied health professional and have highly developed communication and liaison skills. Prior experience in end-of-life conversations, such as in palliative care, ICU, organ and tissue donation, advance care planning, or community care is highly desirable. Experience in developing local procedures and policies would be an advantage, given the breadth of activities being undertaken to ensure service readiness. Experience in a call service would also be an advantage. Willingness to gain competence in use of multiple electronic data and document storage platforms will be necessary.
