The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner to join our team on the Sunshine Coast for a permanent, full-time position. The role involves working across state funded domestic violence programs, providing intake, counselling, court support and group work to individuals who have experienced domestic and family violence. Some colocation with Queensland Police may be required depending on operational needs. You will partner with victim survivors using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to support and empower them to thrive in a future free of violence and abuse.
Key Duties- Completing client intakes, including initial risk assessment and safety planning.
- Provision of domestic and family violence counselling, psychoeducation, and group work.
- Supporting clients attending court in relation to domestic and family violence matters.
- Helping individuals identify goals and immediate needs to increase safety, agency, and autonomy.
- Advocating on behalf of clients, making referrals, assessing eligibility for safety upgrades and other practical support.
- Participating in meetings and liaising with local stakeholders, e.g., Police, Child Safety, Corrections and Housing.
- Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act and Family Law Act and their impacts on families engaged in these systems.
- Well-developed practice framework and ability to articulate it effectively.
- Minimum of two years' experience in intake, risk assessment, safety planning, court support, psychoeducation, referral pathways, DVO assistance and group work.
- Experience in trauma-informed care, crisis triage, and risk management.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage confronting situations.
- Strong written work, including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate for clients with statutory organisations.
- Professional integrity when working with clients, colleagues and community stakeholders.
- Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science and eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA (mandatory).
- Current QLD Working with Children Check or willingness to apply.
- Evidence of Australian Work Rights.
- Current Police Check (within the last three months).
- A current driver's licence.
We offer competitive remuneration (Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award Level 5). Salary packaging options are available to increase take-home pay by up to $15,900.
