Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and undertake strategic, targeted and risk-based audit programs, including desktop reviews and on-site inspections, to detect and deter non-compliance and uplift quality and standards.
  • Lead and manage complaints lodged against building contractors for defective work, including desktop reviews and on-site inspections, to detect major defects and non-compliance and uplift consumer confidence.
  • Manage high-profile audits, investigations, complaints, reviews and policy issues; provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior officers for decision making.
  • Develop and maintain a compliance-based risk assessment framework; analyse datasets and sector trends to minimise risk and maximise safety in the NSW home building industry.
  • Set team priorities and allocate resources to ensure compliance activities are carried out efficiently and timely.
  • Provide high-level specialised building expertise, reports and recommendations to inform decision making and meet organisational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved industry outcomes.
  • Lead and drive team management, work planning, coaching and professional development to deliver priorities and a positive customer and employee experience.
  • Maintain statistical data, records and timely reporting of activities undertaken.
  • Advise senior management on significant issues, industry developments and strategic options for regulatory plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders including key industry bodies.
  • Remain aware of industry trends and best practices to deliver innovative solutions that optimise outcomes.
Qualifications and experience
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and related legislation, regulation, policies and practices.
  • Practical experience in one or more areas of building regulation (builder/trade background; clerk of works; site supervision; technical dispute resolution).
