Senior Data Scientist – Healthcare AI (Perth, WA)

This role involves developing a cloud-based artificial intelligence platform that transforms medical image analysis, directly impacting the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease on a global scale. What you'll do:

  • Research, design, and develop advanced deep learning and computer vision algorithms for medical image analysis and related data.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and designers to deliver products from concept through data collection, development, testing, validation, and production integration.
  • Engage with clients to tailor AI solutions to clinical needs and real-world challenges.
  • Publish research findings and participate in industry events to contribute to the scientific community.
  • Lead long-term research initiatives in deep learning for imaging data and promote best practices within the team.
  • Adopt and integrate new technologies, tools, and frameworks relevant to AI-driven healthcare solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards when developing algorithms for clinical use.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with partner staff, client representatives, and stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.

What you bring:

  • A postgraduate qualification (preferably PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related discipline with significant relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing complex ML models using modern frameworks (e.g., Python libraries such as Keras, TensorFlow).
  • Expertise applying deep learning techniques for image classification and diagnostic algorithms using tools like Theano or Caffe.
  • Experience with independent software vendors specializing in ML/AI solutions and large-scale deployments.
  • Strong foundation in statistics, probability, data modelling, and software development practices for analytics implementations.
  • Ability to provide technical consulting or architectural guidance on large AI/ML projects.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for analytics tasks.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards for medical device software (e.g., ISO 13845, IEC 62304).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
