This is an External Expression of Interest to fill a Fixed Term - Full-Time appointment. This is a 4.5-month appointment with the possibility of extension(s). Appointment commencing 1 December 2025 through to 17 April 2026. Position Location: Kimberley - Broome.

About The Role

As a Consultant in Public Health Medicine, you will play a key role in supporting the Public Health Manager, leading the disease control team, and guiding strategies to protect and improve the health of the Kimberley population. You will provide public health and clinical medical expertise in the identification and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as other emerging public health issues. This is a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural environment with a focus on Indigenous health and remote service delivery. You may coordinate outbreak investigations and interventions and collaborate with Aboriginal health staff and community-controlled health organisations to design programs that reflect local priorities. Based in Broome, there may be a requirement to work across other hospitals and clinics within the Kimberley region.

The Kimberley is WA's northernmost region, with a diverse landscape and a strong cultural heritage. Living in Broome offers an access to a tropical lifestyle and regional services. The region includes Broome Health Campus, Fitzroy Crossing Hospital, Derby Hospital, Halls Creek Hospital, Kununurra Hospital and Wyndham Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the disease control team and guide strategies to protect and improve population health.
  • Provide public health and clinical medical expertise for identification and management of infectious and non-infectious diseases.
  • Coordinate outbreak investigations and interventions.
  • Collaborate with Aboriginal health staff and community-controlled health organisations to reflect local priorities in program design.
  • Work across the Kimberley region as required.
Qualifications and Eligibility
  • Unconditional general and specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM), or recognised equivalent.
  • Willing to apply for a Medicare Provider Number.
  • Willingness to be based in Broome for the duration of the contract.
  • Current C Class driver's Licence and ability to travel including overnight stays away from home.
  • Adaptable, culturally respectful, and committed to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley.
Remuneration and Benefits
  • Includes Arrangement A base salary $378,151 - $448,030 p.a., 12% employer contributed superannuation and professional development allowance $34,696 p.a.
  • Renumeration: MP Year 1-6 $575,277 - $684,457 p.a.* (Updated salary effective from 3 September 2025).
  • Relocation assistance available; flexible working arrangements; opportunities to experience the Kimberley lifestyle.
  • Relocation support subject to approval and negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
