The Intelligence Officer is responsible for providing timely, accurate and relevant intelligence and advice to inform risk management strategies and decision making, within the youth detention centre environment.
The role reports to the Senior Intelligence Officer, and works closely with all teams within the Centre, including operational staff, multidisciplinary teams, and internal and external stakeholders, including the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Corrective Services.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- In collaboration with management, conduct intelligence assessments on security and intelligence matters.
- Manage the collection and analysis of data and information to produce intelligence products to assist detention centre business units in their planning, operations, and client management.
- Collate and evaluate information.
- Assist with incident investigations utilising a variety of methods and sources to obtain information, including interviewing young people, evidence collection and reviewing the security recording system.
- Liaise with external agencies including Youth Justice Service Centres, Child Safety, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Corrective Services, and Children's Courts.
- Assist in contingency exercises conducted by the centre.
- Produce reports and recommendations addressing issues such as contraband, threats to young people or staff, ethnic or gang related issues within the Centre, and identified gaps in security.
- Assist in completion of operational searches of the Centre.
- Review and record in-going and out-going client correspondence to assist in maintaining the safety and security of the Centre.
- Self-manage priorities to meet required reporting time frames and allocate, prioritise, and perform tasks in accordance with departmental policy and procedures within a statutory framework.
- Prepare and submit reports and records using the department's IT system in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
