NSW Resources are looking for a Senior Advisory Officer to join their Mine Closure Unit (MCU) until October 2026.

In 2025/26, the focus for the team will include the delivery of projects arising from the recent Beneficial and Productive Post Mining Land Use Inquiry.

The MCU will also work closely with the NSW Future Jobs and Investment Authority, as it is established, to identify opportunities and priorities for post mining land use in mining dependent regions.

As a Senior Advisory Officer, you'll work closely with stakeholders to facilitate post mining land use and alternate forms of employment on mine sites in NSW.

  • Provide tailored case management and expert advice
  • Develop clear, practical guidance and pathways within the NSW planning and rehabilitation frameworks
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to resolve barriers and drive outcomes
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, and strategic materials to support departmental and ministerial priorities

What We're Looking For
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in planning, mining, geoscience or environmental management
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks such as the NSW planning system or rehabilitation guidelines
  • Strong communication, collaboration and customer service skills, including the ability to write clear, persuasive reports and ministerial briefs in plain English
  • Ability to analyse complex technical information and translate it into practical advice for diverse stakeholders
  • High attention to detail, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic policy environment
