With a strong commitment to values such as teamwork, respect, and community support, this organisation offers an inclusive environment where your expertise will directly contribute to the wellbeing and future-readiness of the city. Enjoy a central CBD location, permanent full-time stability, and the chance to work alongside knowledgeable professionals dedicated to making a positive impact.

  • Benefit from flexible working opportunities within a supportive team culture that values diversity, inclusion, and professional growth.
  • Contribute your expertise in a collaborative environment where your input shapes strategic decisions and supports the delivery of vital public services.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Risk and Business Continuity Officer, you will play an integral part in fortifying the organisation's ability to anticipate, withstand, and recover from disruptions. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with leaders across various functions to embed robust risk management practices into everyday operations. You will be instrumental in designing frameworks that not only meet regulatory standards but also reflect the unique needs of a diverse urban community. By facilitating regular testing of business continuity plans and providing actionable insights from risk assessments, you will help ensure that all teams are prepared for unexpected events. Your efforts will drive continuous improvement across processes while fostering an environment where everyone feels responsible for organisational resilience. Success in this role means being proactive in identifying vulnerabilities, nurturing strong stakeholder relationships, and championing a culture where safety, preparedness, and inclusivity are paramount.

  • Provide expert advice to senior leadership on identifying, assessing, and preparing for disruption risks to ensure ongoing business continuity across all departments.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive risk management systems and business continuity frameworks tailored to organisational needs.
  • Deliver both strategic and operational guidance on risk management and business continuity planning to enable effective responses to emerging priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create, integrate, and regularly test business continuity plans while driving continuous improvement actions.
  • Conduct or facilitate detailed risk assessments, offering constructive feedback to responsible areas and maintaining accurate records within established frameworks such as risk registers.
  • Ensure that cross-organisational plans—including crisis management—are managed holistically with attention to interdependencies between teams.
  • Support the development of initiatives, programmes, and policies that strengthen organisational resilience against potential disruptions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, corporate governance standards, and industry best practices affecting risk management.
  • Foster strong working relationships across departments to promote a culture of shared responsibility for risk mitigation and preparedness.
  • Champion the values of commitment, teamwork, courage, and respect in every aspect of your work.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Risk and Business Continuity Officer, you will bring significant hands-on experience managing complex risks within multifaceted organisations. Your background should include direct involvement with recognised standards like ISO31000:2018 as well as practical exposure to Australia's regulatory context. You are adept at translating technical requirements into accessible strategies that empower others across the organisation. Your interpersonal strengths allow you to build trust quickly with stakeholders from varied backgrounds while encouraging open dialogue around shared responsibilities. A keen eye for detail ensures your documentation is always accurate; meanwhile your empathetic approach helps foster an atmosphere where everyone feels valued. Above all else, your dedication to nurturing collaborative relationships will be key in promoting resilience at every level.

  • Hold a tertiary qualification or possess extensive relevant experience in risk management or related fields that demonstrates your capability for this senior position.
  • Demonstrate deep expertise in applying risk standards such as ISO31000:2018 along with advanced assessment techniques suitable for complex organisations.
  • Showcase thorough understanding of the Australian regulatory landscape as well as corporate governance principles influencing local government operations.
  • Bring substantial experience in developing and implementing business continuity plans that address both strategic objectives and operational realities.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels within large organisations.
  • Display strong analytical abilities enabling you to conduct comprehensive risk assessments while providing clear feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Possess outstanding written communication skills necessary for preparing reports, maintaining records, and articulating recommendations clearly.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards building inclusive environments by respecting diverse perspectives within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Show commitment to upholding values such as teamwork, respect, courage, and community support throughout your professional practice.
