The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) is located in North West Queensland approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry. The greenfield Eva Copper Mine Project is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd.

The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The project is permitted, and the mine site will include development of these pits, a copper concentrator, associated processing and non-processing services and infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, water management facilities, power generation and an accommodation village.

Harmony is preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and we are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will commence with front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major forward-facing metal mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.

Reporting to the Area Project Manager – Mining, the Health, Safety & Training Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines. This includes conducting training, investigating incidents, and providing recommendations for improvement that create and maintain a safe and compliant workplace environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • In collaboration with the Site Senior Executive (SSE) define, implement, and continuously improve the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) to establish a comprehensive framework for managing health and safety practices for the EVA Copper Project.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining robust health and safety practices and procedures, aligned with governing standards and guidelines.
  • In partnership with the Project team leads, promote and embed a strong health and safety culture across the Project site.
  • Monitoring compliance with recognised health and safety standards, remaining updated on legislative changes, and ensuring full compliance with regulations.
  • Providing technical expertise and support to achieve and maintain compliance.
  • Proactively identifying and addressing occupational risks, fostering a culture of preventive action and personnel safety improvement.
  • Conducting audits to evaluate the outcomes of new initiatives and incident investigations, ensuring continuous improvement in safety measures.
  • Monitor both lead and lag indicators for health and safety performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute an effective EVA training program.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute an effective EVA Hygiene Monitoring Program.
  • Management of Workers Compensation and Injury Management Processes.
  • Establish and maintain Emergency Preparedness & Response processes.
  • Develop and support the implementation of Principal Hazard & Critical Control management programs and processes.
  • Advise employees on how to minimise or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace.

What you will bring to Harmony:

  • Tertiary qualifications in health and safety.
  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years' experience in health and safety within the mining industry.
  • Formal training in recognized incident investigation processes.
  • Proficient computer skills, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Power Point, Word, Excel) and ability to learn new software.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify key technical and business issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • High degree of business acumen and ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas.

Roster

This role offers DIDO opportunities from local communities or FIFO options from Townsville or Brisbane to our Cloncurry site in NW QLD, with a strong preference for local candidates. The roster is flexible and can be negotiated, with options including 8 days on / 6 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off, or a combination of both. A regional allowance is available for those residing in Cloncurry, Mount Isa, or within 125 km of the main site access.
