About this position
Join a dynamic and forward-thinking local government team as a Senior Financial Accountant.
Reporting to the Coordinator Finance, you will lead the City's financial reporting function, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations and internal policies. This is a pivotal role contributing to the financial health and strategic direction of the organisation.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the preparation of annual financial reports and audit documentation
- Manage internal and external audit processes
- Deliver accurate monthly financial reports for Council meetings
- Oversee investment reporting and cash flow management
- Provide expert advice on GST and taxation matters
- Establish and manage loan facilities and repayments
- Ensure integrity and efficiency of financial systems, including Technology One
- Contribute to financial policy development and staff training
What we are looking for
To be successful, you must have
- Extensive experience in financial accounting, with strong financial management and reporting skills
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving abilities to resolve complex financial challenges
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Current Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.
- Driver's licence
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field
- Qualification from a professional accounting body (CA or CPA)
