About this position

Join a dynamic and forward-thinking local government team as a Senior Financial Accountant.

Reporting to the Coordinator Finance, you will lead the City's financial reporting function, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations and internal policies. This is a pivotal role contributing to the financial health and strategic direction of the organisation.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the preparation of annual financial reports and audit documentation
  • Manage internal and external audit processes
  • Deliver accurate monthly financial reports for Council meetings
  • Oversee investment reporting and cash flow management
  • Provide expert advice on GST and taxation matters
  • Establish and manage loan facilities and repayments
  • Ensure integrity and efficiency of financial systems, including Technology One
  • Contribute to financial policy development and staff training

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must have

  • Extensive experience in financial accounting, with strong financial management and reporting skills
  • Proven leadership and team development skills
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving abilities to resolve complex financial challenges
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Current Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.
  • Driver's licence
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field
  • Qualification from a professional accounting body (CA or CPA)
