Overview

The University of Sydney is seeking two part-time (0.4 FTE) Research Assistants for the Community Paediatrics Research Group, part of the Central Clinical School. The group, led by Professor Susan Woolfenden, includes a diverse team of researchers focused on studies that help children and their families. The opportunity supports work to enhance child health, well-being and development, build equitable health systems in the community, and study health disparities and outcomes using epidemiological data. The role supports the MRFF-funded EPIC-ND project, a mixed-methods, multi-site randomised controlled trial evaluating social prescribing for families of children with neurodisability, with implementation and economic evaluation. Two part-time positions are available: remote roles based in Newcastle, NSW and Sydney, NSW study sites.

Two Part-time Positions
  • Remote Research Assistant based in Newcastle, NSW, supporting the HNEkidsRehab study site.
  • Research Assistant based in Sydney, NSW, supporting The Children's Hospital at Westmead and/or Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick study sites.
Your key responsibilities
  • Undertake screening of potential participants, recruitment, consent, and enrolment at the NSW Health study sites.
  • Support data collection (quantitative and qualitative) and data analysis.
  • Enter data into databases, maintain tracking documentation, and ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Confidently communicate sensitive information and participant data to team members per approved processes.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting ethics applications.
  • Coordinate with the team to produce quality reports, verify data accuracy within university systems, and actively engage in compliance initiatives to uphold regulations.
  • Attend research meetings and training sessions and take minutes.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Health, Allied Health, Psychology, or other relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of the health and social care needs of priority populations, including people with lived experience of neurodisability.
  • Experience working with and/or supporting people with chronic and complex health conditions, including people with lived experience of neurodisability (preferred).
  • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including REDCap, NVivo, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills, including with people with lived experience of neurodisability, to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demand.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
