Wellways is committed to reconciliation, lived experience and inclusivity. • Use your lived experience as a Carer to empower and support others

Are you a current or former Carer looking to make a difference? Use your lived experience to support and guide others through their caring journey. Wellways' Carer Gateway In-person Peer Support (IPPS) program offers a unique opportunity to foster real connections, encourage recovery and build strong, supportive communities.

About The Role

As a Peer Facilitator, you will lead structured group sessions for Carers, drawing on the CHIME recovery framework (Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment), peer support principles and reflective practice. Your role is to create safe, inclusive spaces where Carers can share, learn and grow together.

You'll be trained to deliver a series of engaging group sessions on topics like:
  • Dealing with stress, balancing life and improving sleep
  • Building communication skills and confidence
  • Navigating systems like the NDIS and My Aged Care
  • Reconnecting with personal identity and wellbeing
  • Implementing and facilitating specific and targeted programs to Young Carers (up to 25 years old) and/or Carers (+25 years old)

What is Lived Experience? Lived experience offers unique insight, empathy and authenticity that enrich in person connections. It is not about professional or clinical expertise, but rather the personal journey of being a carer and offering support. Peer Facilitators will intentionally draw on their own lived experience to support the learning of others. This includes effectively communicating the challenges and experiences that contributed to their caring journey.
