The Learning Area Leader of Health and Physical Education at Holy Cross College provides dynamic and visionary leadership in the design, delivery, and evaluation of Health and Physical Education programs from Year 7 to Year 12. As a key member of the Middle Leadership Team, the Learning Area Leader fosters a culture of high expectations, collaboration, and innovation, ensuring that all students are engaged in and challenged by their learning whilst continuously progressing toward achieving their personal best.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal – Learning, the Learning Area Leader of Health and Physical Education is responsible for curriculum leadership, staff development, and effective use of data to drive continuous improvement. The position also involves managing resources, budgets, and facilities, and ensuring compliance with safety and curriculum standards. Through inspirational leadership and a commitment to the College's Vision and Mission, the Learning Area Leader of Health and Physical Education plays a vital role in promoting lifelong health, wellbeing, and physical literacy for all students to support student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing and supporting collaboration, alignment, and a sense of collective efficacy within the Health and Physical Education Learning Area, ensuring the curriculum is inclusive and reflects the diversity of learners.

Engaging with parents and the wider community to support student learning, wellbeing, and development.

Promoting student wellbeing through physical activity and fostering respectful relationships.

Supporting pastoral care initiatives through active engagement in student mentoring and wellbeing programs.

Providing leadership in the development and implementation of contemporary, evidence- based Health and Physical Education teaching practices that align with the College's Vision for Learning and the values of Catholic education.

Leading the effective use of data and feedback to build teacher capacity, ensuring students are engaged, challenged, and progressing in their learning.

Overseeing the planning and delivery of College sporting events and providing supervision to the Sports Coordinator.

Contributing to the College's strategic goals through active participation in the Middle Leaders and Learning Area Leaders Teams.

Supporting professional learning and reflective practice within the Health and Physical Education team.

Ensuring Health and Physical Education programs promote respect for the dignity of the human person and stewardship of the body, in line with Catholic teachings.

Embedding Catholic values such as compassion, justice, and service into health and wellbeing education.

Supporting whole-school initiatives that reflect the Catholic ethos, including liturgical events and service learning.

Encouraging ethical decision-making and moral development through health education topics.

Managing resources, facilities, and equipment to meet safety and compliance requirements, including Work Health and Safety induction and ongoing staff training.

Ensuring responsible and sustainable use of physical education spaces and materials. Supporting the College's strategic planning and budgeting processes for the learning area.

Promoting environmental awareness and responsibility through outdoor education and physical activity programs.
