About The Role

Join Inner West Council in a pivotal role dedicated to advancing the health and wellbeing of our diverse community. As a key member of the Office of Sport and Parks unit within the Engineering Directorate, you will lead initiatives that promote active lifestyles, increase participation in community sport, and foster inclusive recreation opportunities.

This Role Focuses On
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles through increased sports participation, particularly among school-aged children and communities at risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
  • Collaborating with local sporting bodies to reduce economic and social barriers to participation, especially for people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Driving strategic partnerships with local clubs to enhance community health outcomes and set ambitious targets for increasing the involvement of women and girls in sport.
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in recreation provision using evidence-based research and facilitating new opportunities such as indoor gymnastics and dragon boating.
  • Supporting community cohesion by encouraging volunteer-led sports clubs and ensuring they receive appropriate recognition, support, and investment.
  • Balancing recreational needs across parks and public spaces to ensure equitable access for all user groups.

You will work closely with the Office of Sport and Parks Liaison Manager, Parks Engagement Officers, and the Recreation Officer to deliver on Council's strategic and operational goals. High levels of community engagement and collaboration will be essential to your success in this role.

Remuneration

$104,541.32 + $119,875.60 + 12% Superannuation

Required Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in sport and recreation or a related discipline OR significant relevant equivalent industry experience at a senior level
  • Ability to assess community recreational needs
  • Strong interpersonal communication, collaboration, public engagement and stakeholder management skills, including demonstrated experience working with sporting clubs.
  • Demonstrated financial management, grant application, procurement and budgetary experience
  • High level analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to inspire and support innovative thinking
  • Knowledge and skills in contemporary change management and quality management systems
  • High level computer skills
  • Understanding and commitment to equal employment opportunities, diversity, work health and safety, ethical practice and acting with probity at all times
  • Class C Motor Vehicle Driver's Licence
Desirable Criteria
  • Demonstrated appreciation of the complexity of Local Government, in particular the social, political and legal frameworks within which it operates.
