We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineering Manager to lead, develop and grow our national hardware engineering capability. This leadership role spans multiple locations across Australia, ensuring our teams, processes and tools are set up to deliver on important Defence programs. As a member of the Engineering & Technology leadership team, you will guide our people, strengthen engineering governance, and advocate for the needs of teams and individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop Hardware Engineering capability across people, processes, tools and training.
  • Manage resources across programs, ensuring alignment to business priorities.
  • Partner with program leadership on execution, delivery and review of hardware engineering work packages.
  • Support bids and proposals, ensuring technical excellence and innovation.
  • Provide functional governance, driving consistency and best practice.
  • Mentor and inspire individuals to achieve their potential, fostering a strong team culture.
  • Deliver effective communication and feedback channels between staff and leadership.
  • Lead induction, probation, and performance management processes.
About you

You are an accomplished leader with the ability to empower individuals and guide teams towards achieving complex program goals. You bring a balance of technical expertise and people leadership, with a proven ability to deliver results in high-stakes environments.

  • Extensive experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
  • Strong background in hardware engineering within acquisition and sustainment programs.
  • Advanced leadership skills with the ability to drive innovation and lead change.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Track record of successful program execution in hardware capability.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1) and employment may be contingent on the provision of further personal information including citizenship to ensure compliance with international export control legislation and regulations.
