
Clinical Liaison Nurse

The Clinical Liaison Nurse is to provide expert nursing consultation and liaison with midwives, nurses and other health care professionals in relation to patients presenting to Mercy Hospital for Women (MHW) with a mental illness or behavioral disturbance due to other causes. They work closely with MHW's already established Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Care service and work within established PMH clinical guidelines and pathways of care. The Clinical Liaison Nurse supports midwives and nurses to coordinate psychiatric nursing interventions in maternity and specialist wards, provide education for midwives and nurses in the psychiatric management of patients within the established PMH guidelines for care. They support the existing PMH services and liaise with the Emergency Department, Outpatient Perinatal Mental Health Clinic, inpatient wards and external agencies to provide highly responsive and flexible service to consumers and carers.

- Day shifts Mondays and Tuesdays
- Be part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide highly responsive and flexible service to consumers and carers

- Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Midwife / Nurse
- Completion of a specialist Undergraduate Psychiatric Nursing program or a Post Graduate Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing qualification
- Extensive experience and practice in a range of acute service settings
- Previous experience in a Mother Baby Unit is desirable
- Demonstrates a high level of ability to work effectively and collaboratively with patients experiencing psychiatric disorders
- Demonstrates ability to provide a high level of crisis assessment and advice for care for women with behavioural or mental health problems
- Demonstrate ability to provide education for Nurses and Midwives in care management of women with mental health and psychosocial issues affecting their health
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience

- A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check
