The University of Queensland Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation working to create the campus experience for the University of Queensland (UQ) student community. UQU runs a variety of food, beverage, retail and entertainment outlets across university campuses and offers student support services including advocacy, legal advice and sponsorship of clubs and societies for UQ students.

The Opportunity

We're on the lookout for someone to join and lead our team as the Schonell Catering and Events Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for managing events, functions and catering bookings from start to finish, communicating with relevant internal and external stakeholders, leading staff efficiently and effectively, fostering and maintaining relationships with clients, and ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly. In this role, you will spend approximately 70% of your time assisting your team and running events, and 30% in the office.

To be successful in this role, you will have a demonstrated understanding of a wide range of small and large food and beverages, events, recipe and product costings, event quotations, kitchen operations, food safety, and workplace health and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Manage events, functions and catering bookings from start to finish; communicate with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead staff efficiently and effectively; foster and maintain client relationships.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly.
  • Allocate approximately 70% of time to assisting the team and running events; 30% in the office.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in coordinating catering functions and event supervision/management.
  • Demonstrated history of activities that achieve individual, team, and business objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (this is a must).
  • Responsible Management of a Licensed Venue is not essential; however, it would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in sales and business development.
  • Experience working with budgets.
  • Experience using a cloud-based EMS (e.g., Swiftpos, Flex, Ivvy, H&L).
  • Experience working with an accredited food safety plan.
