About the Role

Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns is seeking a dedicated and capable individual to join our Building and Planning Team. This role involves managing our staff accommodation property portfolio and overseeing office facilities across the Diocese.

We operate three office locations in Cairns and provide staff housing in Cairns, the Tablelands, Mossman, Innisfail, Babinda, Weipa, Cooktown, and Thursday Island. The ideal candidate will bring experience in residential property management and/or office facilities maintenance. However, our primary focus is on finding the right person for the role—so if you possess strengths in one area but not the other, we encourage you to apply.

This position is based in Cairns and includes travel for periodic property inspections. Most travel is within a two-hour drive from Cairns, with occasional flights and overnight stays required for properties in Cooktown, Weipa, and Thursday Island (typically twice per year or as needed).

This is a permanent, full-time position, with flexibility available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for arranging and if necessary, supervising maintenance and general upkeep of the staff accommodation portfolio.
  • The houses and units in the portfolio are located in Thursday Island, Cooktown, Weipa, Dimbulah, Mareeba, Atherton, Ravenshoe, Babinda, Innisfail, Mossman, Herberton and Cairns. The number of properties in the portfolio varies but as at June 2024 there were 70 properties being managed.
  • The properties classified as being very remote are located in Thursday Island, Weipa or Cooktown (55%), regionally remote includes the Atherton Tablelands and Innisfail areas (35%) & locally in Cairns (10%)
  • Manage the maintenance of CES office's, both owned & tenancies, on behalf of CES. Offices are currently located in, Mulgrave Road (owned) Spence Street (leased) and McLeod Streets (leased) Cairns, & a storage facility in Aumuller Street (leased).
  • Manage the maintenance & upkeep of the CES owned office on Mulgrave Rd.
  • Facilitate office furniture purchase and installation in CES tenancies and staff accommodation.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining the property management system.
  • Assist Building & Planning team as directed by manager which may include some administrative duties.
  • Confirm all work undertaken complies with relevant legislation and organisational guideline.

Work Requirements
  • Unless an exemption applies all staff are required to hold a current Working With Children Blue Card or be eligible to apply
  • Current drivers licence
  • A strong demonstrated commitment to the objectives, vision, and ethos of Catholic Education
  • Promote child safety at all times
  • Tertiary qualifications at Certificate level or equivalent qualifications relevant to the position may be required or such knowledge, qualifications and experience that are deemed by the employer as necessary to successfully carry out the duties of the position
  • Experience in a similar property or facilities management role
  • Familiar with Residential Tenancy Agreements
  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel
