Introduction

The incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sustainability strategies and programs within the organization. The officer collaborates with stakeholders, monitors sustainability performance, and drives initiatives aimed at improving resource efficiency, reducing waste, and fostering positive community relations. The goal is to support the organization in achieving its sustainability objectives while aligning with industry standards and best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Every role at THE COMPANY requires strong internal governance and adherence to the company's Values, Vision and Leadership Competencies; strong inter-departmental interaction.
  • Functional: Implement and manage the Sustainability management programs.
  • Develop energy and water policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits and risk assessments.
  • Ensure non-conformances during internal and external audits are closed timeously and records are kept.
  • Gather feedback on existing Sustainability programs and encourage participation in new initiatives (SHERPA).
  • Prepare monthly toolbox topics and quarterly newsletter on Sustainable living (Sustainable practices).
  • Conduct educational awareness for the employees on Sustainable practices.
  • Consult with key stakeholders to identify key areas of improvement.
  • Assist in ensuring that sustainability targets are met.
  • Record, monitor, analyse data, and compile monthly Sustainability reports.
  • Create and maintain Sustainability program documentation.
  • Monitor new sustainable technology that might be of value to the company (green energy, buildings, transportation, etc.).
  • Provide an elevated level of office administration support in the company and co-ordinate meetings, prepare meeting agendas and minutes as appropriate.
  • Factory for the Future - Compliance with and managing audits.
  • Farming for the Future - Undertake farm visits and assist with compliance and assisting farmers (Assist farmers with completing the action plan in a timely manner, ensure required documents are uploaded on the farmers SHERPA profile for assessment).
  • Farming for the Future - Provide feedback to FFD farm liaison and WW technician on the completion of the action plans.
  • FAI - Communicate with farmers and ensure the quarterly FAI data submission. Provide feedback to farmers once FAI reports are out.
  • Assist farmers with SIZA social audit registration and compliance where required.
  • Waste management - data capture and administration (monitor waste trends, investigate additional recycling streams and waste reduction options).
  • Environmental initiatives and community upliftment programmes.
  • Assisting Stores Team with EPR data capture and compliance.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • A Degree is a prerequisite with 3 years' relevant experience. A BSc would be preferable, but a similar degree or a BCom would also be considered with the right experience.
  • Incumbent would need to have an attention to detail, a methodical approach and good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written, as well as strong numeracy skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with people inside and outside of the organisation.
  • Experience in a role linked to sustainability is required.
  • Fully computer literate with an ability to operate at an intermediate level on MS Excel.
  • Experience with sustainability management systems would be an advantage.
