Sandfire is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced sustainability leader to take the role of Head of Sustainability. We are seeking a dynamic, strategic thinker who possesses strong managerial skills within the mining industry.
Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, the role of Head of Sustainably will manage Sandfire's Sustainability Strategy, management system, reporting requirements and explore and execute initiatives that support the company's strategy and vision. The role is required to provide global business partnering and lead the direction on all matters related to sustainability to the Company's global assets and corporate functions and continue to retain external stakeholder confidence. This role will also lead a small team with accountabilities across key areas including Environment, Climate Change, Human Rights and Social Performance, and Heritage and Community Engagement.
Duties/ Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Strategic oversight of the global sustainability function including, develop and implement strategic plans, including goals and objectives, targets and actions, that align with Sandfire's corporate objectives, strategy, mission and values.
- Maintain necessary policies, standards and procedures, supporting guidance and forms to align with Sandfire's Sustainability Strategy, mission and values.
- Maintain and execute a global Sustainability Strategy and initiatives that support the company's business strategy, objectives and vision.
- Coach, mentor and manage a team of 5 direct reports, including the support their development, monitoring their performance and provide guidance where required.
- Establish and execute an assurance process for the sustainability related policies, standards and procedures.
- Identify and manage Sandfire's sustainability risks.
- Manage the sustainability due diligence process for any acquisitions, mergers, partnerships and contracts.
- Manage the internal and external sustainability reporting requirements including annual reporting of sustainability and modern slavery performance.
- Develop appropriate external communications regarding the company's sustainability strategy, initiatives and progress and form responses to external sustainability related queries.
- Benchmark against, advise on and align with sustainability related external frameworks and leading practice where appropriate.
- Provide advice directly to and support the Chief Sustainability Officer in their role as the advisor to the Executive and Board on all sustainability matters including risk and international standards.
- Provide additional support, as required.
About you:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in the environment or sustainability fields within the mining industry with operational experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of managerial level experience
- Strong knowledge of global sustainability related legislation and leading practice including within policy frameworks and reporting.
- Experience working with Executive teams and Boards to provide expert advice.
- Capacity to anticipate and display initiative.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior management across different business units and operations sites.
