We are seeking a suitably qualified First Nations academic with a strong teaching and research record in Medical/Health Education.
Salary Package: Lecturer (Level B): $123,435 to $146,044 per annum (pro-rata for part-time), or Senior Lecturer (Level C): $150,714 to $173,323 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). These amounts, along with 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading, will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications, skills and experience.
Appointment Type: Part-time or full-time, continuing. Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde).
The RoleThe Macquarie Medical School within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) seeks a First Nations academic to lead the continuing development, refinement, coordination and delivery of teaching and learning related to the history, culture, traditional/contemporary knowledges and health of First Nations peoples in courses for the Macquarie Medical School, especially the Doctor of Medicine (MD).
This role will work with colleagues in the School and Faculty to strengthen First Nations education, including but not limited to the Academic Director First Nations Health, FMHHS, other First Nations academics in the School & Faculty, and Walanga Muru.
Areas of focus include:
- Teaching of First Nations cultural awareness, respect, and cultural responsiveness in interactions with First Nations peoples, under a framework of cultural safety
- Teaching of key aspects of history and culture and their connection to current health issues affecting First Nations peoples
- Strength-based approaches, and communication as important counters to problem-based perspectives of First Nations health and peoples
- Teaching of First Nations perspectives on health and healing, and what can be learned from First Nations approaches
- Fostering partnerships and engagement that focus on mutually beneficial relationships which support community-led change and co-design
A key focus of the role will include developing connections and partnerships for community engagement and First Nations clinical experiences for students in our medical and health courses. The role will also support alignment with Mudang Dali - the University's First Nations Connected Curriculum Framework. Opportunities for higher degree research during the role will be considered.
About YouYou will be highly motivated with a passion for education in First Nations culture, history, knowledges and health. You have academic experience and have worked in health or a health-related role (e.g., Aboriginal health worker, Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Aboriginal Health Practitioner, or other clinician roles).
You have experience in developing, teaching and leading curricula within a higher education setting and can bring established personal and professional connections to provide authentic interactions and to develop clinical education experiences for students.

- Postgraduate and/or professional qualifications in Aboriginal health-related fields or medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, or allied health
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning with a focus on First Nations knowledges, experiences, pedagogies and perspectives, including health system experiences
- Experience developing and leading scholarly and innovative teaching and learning approaches
- Experience undertaking community engagement activities, particularly in First Nations health networks
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to relate to staff and students from diverse backgrounds and to represent the faculty externally
- Ability to contribute to a culture of excellence and scholarship in health and medical education
- Understanding of confidentiality, anti-discrimination, equity, OH&S and related legislation, and ability to implement EEO and OH&S plans, policies and programs
Additional criteria for level C applicants:
- Experience and/or qualifications in public health, health policy, or First Nations health research
- Evidence of research activity in medical or health-related education
- Capacity to supervise higher degree research students
- Ability to develop and lead scholarly and innovative teaching approaches
- Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline or fellowship of a relevant specialist college or equivalent
- Experience using technologies for blended learning to incorporate First Nations curriculum
