About The Role

National Intermodal is seeking a Senior Manager, Planning Approvals and Environment to join our team in Melbourne. Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer you will be accountable for delivering specialised planning, environmental assessments, and post-approval services that comply with statutory requirements, are managed efficiently, and meet project timelines and budgets. This role provides technical leadership and actively engages in consultation processes to support the preparation of environmental assessments, planning approvals, and post-consent documentation for National Intermodal's project portfolio.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide expert guidance and hands-on support in preparing environmental assessments and planning approvals across relevant jurisdictions, including EPBC Act compliance, and translate complex requirements into clear strategies for project teams and senior leadership team.
• Collaborate with the Delivery team to integrate environmental and planning requirements into construction workflows, ensuring alignment with project schedules and budgets.
• Monitor and report on risks, approvals progress, compliance metrics, and adherence to approval conditions and project milestones.
• Mentor team members to ensure on-site implementation of planning and environmental compliance, fostering cross-functional problem-solving to address approval-related challenges.
• Engage with government departments, councils, and regulatory bodies to streamline approvals and maintain transparent communication.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential issues through early and collaborative engagement with stakeholders.
• Prepare consultant briefs and tender documentation, contribute to contract awards, and oversee consultant performance to meet project timelines and statutory obligations.
• Work closely with the Government & Stakeholder Relations team to deliver effective community consultation and address community-raised concerns collaboratively.
• Champion innovative planning and environmental solutions, promoting continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing to enhance project outcomes in cost, schedule, or sustainability.
  
  

About you

• 10+ years of experience in major civil infrastructure projects, with a proven track record in securing approvals and delivering environmental management services.
• Tertiary qualifications in planning, environmental science, natural resources, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong expertise in planning approvals, environmental assessments, and compliance, with comprehensive knowledge of legislation in at least one of NSW, VIC, or QLD.
• Ability to work autonomously in your region while collaborating effectively with a national team. Proactive, self-motivated approach with exceptional planning and prioritization skills to manage competing demands.
• Demonstrated leadership in guiding teams to deliver high-quality outcomes within scope, budget, and timelines, with strong initiative and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
• Influential communicator with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, able to build consensus and drive change. Results-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and controls.
