The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Spoil Manager to oversee and coordinate all aspects of spoil management on the T2D project. This role will be responsible for planning, logistics, compliance, and stakeholder engagement relating to the excavation, handling, transport, and disposal of spoil material generated across tunnelling and surface operations.
Reporting to the Services Director, The Spoil Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that spoil activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental and project requirements whilst ensuring key relationships are maintained throughout the duration of the project.
Role and Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of the project's spoil management strategy.
- Lead engagement with key stakeholders including government bodies, local councils, subcontractors, and community representatives regarding spoil activities.
- Coordinate spoil movement from tunnelling and surface excavation works, including scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
- Manage spoil haulage logistics, including fleet coordination, traffic management, and interface with site teams.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, project approvals, and waste management requirements.
- Monitor and report on spoil volumes, destinations, and material classifications.
- Implement controls to mitigate environmental impacts such as dust, noise, and water run-off.
- Oversee subcontractors involved in haulage and spoil processing.
- Demonstrated experience managing spoil, materials, or logistics on large-scale infrastructure or tunnelling projects.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of environmental and regulatory requirements for spoil handling, disposal, and reuse.
- Proven ability to coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and haulage fleets.
- High-level planning, scheduling, and organisational skills.
- Experience implementing traffic management and logistics planning in urban environments (desirable).
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred.
