The Spoil Management Engineer will oversee all activities related to the handling, transportation, and disposal of spoil generated from construction projects. The role requires a combination of technical knowledge, project management skills, and environmental awareness to ensure that spoil is dealt with in a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant manner.
Responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating the spoil management plan, including excavation, loading, haulage, and disposal activities, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations and alliance policies.
The Spoil Management Engineer will work with the project team to identify suitable disposal locations and methods, including recycling or reuse options. They will also liaise with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure proper documentation and compliance with spoil management requirements.
Ongoing responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on the volume and type of materials excavated, transported, and disposed of. Additionally, the engineer will conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimize the environmental impact of spoil disposal.
The Spoil Management Engineer will collaborate with other engineers to integrate spoil management into the overall project plan. They will also develop and maintain project documentation related to spoil management, including tracking systems and reports. Furthermore, they will investigate and resolve any issues that arise in the spoil management process, such as contamination or transportation challenges.
The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to provide technical support and guidance to site personnel regarding spoil handling and disposal. The Spoil Management Engineer must also be proactive in implementing continuous improvement initiatives to optimize spoil management practices.
About You- A tertiary qualification in Engineering (e.g., Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering) and 2+ years post-qualification experience are required for this role.
- Prior experience in road, bridges, and/or tunnelling projects with direct experience in spoil management is highly desirable.
- The successful candidate will possess advanced commercial acumen, including cost reduction and meeting budgets, as well as a high level of computer literacy.
