Overview

The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community. The VACCA team is committed to the organisation's visions and values, providing support, service and advocacy for our children and other vulnerable members of the community. This role is based in the Eastern region and focuses on holistic case management for Aboriginal women and their children experiencing or escaping family violence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide holistic case management to Aboriginal women and their children who are experiencing or escaping family violence in the Eastern region.
  • Build positive relationships and networks with relevant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and services to ensure appropriate referrals and supports are put in place, ranging from short, medium, and long-term options.
  • Prepare accurate documents and reports (e.g., case notes, incident reports, work reports) that meet audience needs.
About You / Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to VACCA's vision and purpose.
  • Understanding of identity and cultural connections in the healing process for Aboriginal children and families.
  • Experience and ability to work with Aboriginal organisations and communities; effective communication with Aboriginal people; understanding issues of family violence and impacts on women, children and families.
  • Ability to empower and advocate for clients with a non-judgemental approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of local family violence programs, accommodation, legal, health and community services within the region – or the ability to acquire that knowledge.
  • Ability to collaborate with other Aboriginal and mainstream organisations to achieve client/community outcomes; work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-care and reflective practice strategies leading to resilience and self-awareness.
  • Effective, culturally appropriate interpersonal skills (e.g., active listening, empathy) in all communications.
  • Ability to prepare accurate documents and reports (case notes, incident reports, work reports) that meet audience needs.
  • Knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, MARAM framework and confidentiality/mandatory reporting provisions.
  • Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent; valid Police Check; Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain); Victorian Driver Licence. COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended.
