Overview

Join to apply for the Aftercare Coach – Empowering Young People Towards Independence role at Uniting.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity, located in Tamworth NSW. Starting base annual salary of $82,622 to $90,226 negotiable based on experience, plus super, plus access to generous salary packaging options.

About the opportunity

Do you have the passion, energy, and commitment to walk alongside young people as they take their next steps into independence? We're seeking an Aftercare Coach who can bring optimism, creativity, and unwavering belief in young people's potential — helping them set goals, navigate challenges, and build the skills for a thriving future.

Responsibilities
  • Meet contract, performance, and practice requirements, upholding ethical and professional standards.
  • Contribute to practice improvements in Aftercare, promoting high standards of service delivery.
  • Foster a culture that values young people's autonomy and self-determination.
  • Provide advocacy, mentoring, and practical support based on trauma-informed care and Advantaged Thinking principles — with a strong understanding of the Advantaged Thinking view.
  • Build trusting, respectful partnerships with young people, recognising their strengths and highlighting future possibilities.
  • A high level of face-to-face contact is expected to effectively build relationships with the young people we support, unless the client has indicated a preference for remote assistance.
  • Facilitate access to entitlements and assistance such as allowances, Youth Allowance, and personal files.
  • Review and implement aftercare plans, addressing support gaps and facilitating referrals to relevant services.
  • Support engagement in employment, training, and education.
  • Conduct post-exit check-ins to ensure ongoing wellbeing and smooth transitions.
  • Deliver intensive aftercare support, including case management, goal planning, and service coordination.
  • Provide direct support in developing independent living skills and strengthening connections to family, culture, and community.
  • Deliver holistic, personalised mentoring and facilitate group sessions on topics including social skills, job readiness, financial literacy, and health and wellbeing.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with young people and relevant tertiary qualifications in social science or equivalent.
  • A current NSW driver's licence and NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • A deep understanding of the difference between a caseworker and the role of a coach — empowering rather than directing.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and advocacy skills.
  • A "can-do" attitude, with the flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities.
  • Energy to match the pace and enthusiasm of young people.
  • A commitment to prioritising supervision and case reviews to ensure best practice.
  • Passion to make a genuine difference in someone's life through trust, relationship, and energy.
  • Skill in helping young people dream big, break down goals into achievable steps, and navigate barriers along the way.
  • Willingness and availability to travel regularly to meet young people where they are regionally located, promote the Specialist Aftercare program, engage in team-building activities and training.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet reporting obligations with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Flexible working hours where needed to meet the needs of young people and the program.
Benefits and culture
  • Welcoming you exactly as you are
  • Starting base annual salary of $82,622 to $90,226 negotiable based on experience plus super
  • Access to generous salary packaging options as well as access to Uniting's URewards retail partner program
  • Wellbeing programs and access to Fitness Passport
  • Career development opportunities such as training and education
  • Amazing workplace culture
