This is a temporarily funded position until 25 June 2028 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.

Role

The Dual Diagnosis Peer Worker position is based in the Emergency Department and works with the Mental Health Emergency Teams to enhance outcomes for individuals with a Dual Diagnosis. The position requires the person to have a lived experience of mental health and drug and/or alcohol issues. The position will provide an effective link between consumers/carers, clinicians and services, with a focus on improving the consumer journey and treatment outcomes whilst providing advocacy and support.

The Peer Worker will develop strong and effective stakeholder partnerships, including liaison with families and/or carers. This role is required to work weekends and afterhours. While based at Wollongong Hospital it may travel across the district as needed.

Requirements
  • Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Required to have a Certificate IV in Peer Work or willing to undertake the Certificate IV in Peer Work
  • Valid NSW Drivers Licence
