You'll also provide guidance and support to a small team of cadets, helping foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

How You'll Contribute
In this position, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Council's digital infrastructure and ensuring the effectiveness of our cyber security operations. You will spearhead proactive threat identification and response activities, conduct thorough incident investigations, and coordinate prompt remediation of vulnerabilities across both cloud-based and on-premises environments.
Your knowledge will influence Council's cyber risk management through forensic investigations, penetration testing, and the creation of security awareness programs. Serving as a key escalation point for critical security incidents, you will also help enhance our security measures and incident response procedures.
Collaboration with stakeholders, vendors, and application owners will be essential as you deliver high-standard security services, maintain comprehensive documentation, and support ITIL-compliant service management processes. Additionally, you will mentor cyber cadets, fostering a cooperative and high-achieving team atmosphere.
Your efforts will directly support the Council's strategic objectives, embody our core values, and contribute to delivering a safer and more resilient Wollongong community.

Your qualifications and extensive background in the cyber security sector equip you with a thorough understanding of enterprise cyber operations and a proactive mindset toward securing systems and data.
You thrive in roles where impact, purpose, and balance matter. While you bring experience from high-pressure environments, you're now looking for an opportunity where your expertise can be used meaningfully-without compromising your work-life balance. You value the stability, flexibility, and supportive culture that come with working in local government, including a genuine 35-hour week and the chance to contribute to the community.
You excel at balancing competing demands, resolving complex challenges, and communicating effectively with stakeholders across all levels.
