Location: Taree, New South Wales. This is a permanent, full-time role with salary circa $130,000 – $154,000 plus 12% superannuation (subject to skills and experience).

We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance professional to join our team as Financial Strategy Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager Finance, this pivotal role leads the Finance Business Partnering team and is responsible for the organisation's management accounting function. You will play a key role in shaping long, medium and short-term financial planning, delivering high quality internal financial reporting, and driving financial capability across MidCoast Council.

You will lead a high performing, customer focused finance team that partners with business units to improve financial processes and enable informed decision making. You will oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate, insightful financial reports and analysis to guide executive planning and enhance financial accountability. A key focus will be the coordination and integration of Council's budgeting and planning processes, including the delivery of documents such as the Long-Term Financial Plan, 4-year budget estimates, and the Statement of Revenue Policy. You will work with leaders across the organisation to model financial scenarios and ensure strategic alignment with the Community Strategic Plan and other corporate frameworks. You will also support improvements to reporting tools, dashboards, KPIs and performance frameworks that enhance financial transparency and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Finance Business Partnering team and manage the organisation's management accounting function.
  • Shape long, medium and short-term financial planning and deliver high quality internal financial reporting.
  • Coordinate budgeting and planning processes, including Long-Term Financial Plan, 4-year budgets, and Revenue Policy documentation.
  • Model financial scenarios with leaders to assess impact of service delivery changes and ensure alignment with strategic plans.
  • Enhance reporting tools, dashboards, KPIs and performance frameworks to improve financial transparency and sustainability.
  • Oversee preparation and delivery of accurate financial reports and analysis for executive planning.
  • Collaborate with business units to improve financial processes and decision making.
Qualifications
  • Degree level qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CA or CPA qualification (or Australian recognised equivalent).
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a senior finance role; local government experience is highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in financial strategy development and long-term financial planning, with strong ability to present financial information to stakeholders.

Location

This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
