About The RoleAs a Lawyer in the Family Law Services team, you will play a critical role in representing clients in family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, and other related matters. This includes preparing cases, personally advocating in court, and instructing counsel as required. You will provide duty lawyer services, along with legal advice, referrals, and information tailored to the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged clients. If appointed as an Independent Children's Lawyer or Separate Representative, you will act in the best interests of children in family law and child protection matters. Additionally, you will contribute to policy development, law reform, and the delivery of legal training sessions while collaborating with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders using trauma-informed principles. All work will align with Legal Aid Queensland's quality and case management standards, reflecting our core values of respect, quality, and accountability.
About YouThe successful applicant will:
- Possess strong knowledge of family law, violence prevention advocacy, child protection, and counselling notes protect cases.
- Have the ability to independently prepare and advocate in complex legal matters.
- Be familiar with the practice and procedures of the relevant areas of law, including ethical standards.
- Communicate effectively with clients who may have complex needs using principles of trauma-informed practice.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, quality service delivery, and continuous improvement.
- A 36.25 hour working week (full time hours)
