About The Role

As the Disaster Preparedness Officer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive disaster preparedness strategies that ensure continuity of care during emergencies and climate-related events.

You will lead the development of a region-specific Disaster Preparedness Protocol, aligned with national guidelines, and manage its implementation across the primary care sector. Your work will involve close collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including local, state, and federal emergency management bodies, Local Hospital Networks, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, aged care providers, urgent care clinics, and mental health services.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Create and annually update disaster preparedness plans and business continuity protocols in line with Department of Health guidelines.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with emergency services, health providers, and community organisations to ensure coordinated disaster response efforts.
  • Coordinate and deliver disaster preparedness training and simulation exercises for primary care staff and NGOs, enhancing sector-wide readiness.
  • Lead disaster preparedness projects using standard project management methodologies, including managing budgets, timelines, and contractor performance. You'll also oversee grant programs that support resilience-building initiatives.
  • Work with the Communications team to ensure timely, clear, and targeted messaging to internal teams and external stakeholders before, during, and after emergencies.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of preparedness initiatives, using data and stakeholder feedback to drive improvements.

Selection Criteria
  • Disaster Preparedness Expertise: Demonstrate your knowledge and practical experience in disaster preparedness principles, practices, and relevant regulations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide examples of your experience working in multisectoral partnerships and your ability to build productive relationships across diverse organisations.
  • Communication and Influence: Describe your interpersonal and communication skills, including your ability to influence, negotiate, and consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Outline your experience in managing complex projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Resilience and Adaptability: Share how you perform under pressure and in high-stress situations, and your approach to maintaining professionalism and integrity.

To apply, please submit your resume as well as a cover letter addressing the above Selection Criteria. Only applications with both a resume and cover letter will be considered.

Applications close Friday 8th August at 9:00am.

Please note the successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Police Clearance.
