Overview

Senior Technical Officer Microscopy and Histology at Flinders University. This role oversees Histology, Immunohistochemistry, and Histochemistry services; manages equipment, provides user training, and supports researchers and students. It also supports microscopy and histology teaching, preparation and maintenance of tissue samples and slides, and contributes to WHS procedures and administrative tasks such as record keeping and invoicing for the Light Microscopy Facility. The Senior Technical Officer works with the Microscopy Lead Academic and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Histochemistry services; manage equipment; provide user training; support researchers and students in the use of these facilities.
  • Support microscopy and histology teaching activities; prepare and maintain tissue samples and slides.
  • Contribute to WHS procedures; perform administrative tasks such as record keeping and invoicing for the Light Microscopy Facility.
  • Collaborate with the Microscopy Lead Academic and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery and support.
About You / Qualifications
  • Proven skills in routine histology, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry techniques.
  • Proficiency in brightfield, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy techniques.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines.
  • High-level organisational skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and sound judgement.
  • Ability to develop protocols, train users, and manage online equipment/resource booking systems.
