The RoleAs a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to deliver education and therapy programs that promote student learning, engagement, and wellbeing in an inclusive environment. You will support students to reach their full potential through the development of their cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills. Within this role, you would provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of special educational needs (SEN) goals.
Ideal candidatesWe are ideally seeking Special Needs Education Assistants who demonstrate:
- High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to build respectful and collaborative relationships with students, staff and families
- Flexibility, initiative, and a 'can do' attitude in meeting and responding to diverse student needs
- The ability to support student learning in small groups or one-on-one, particularly in the areas of synthetic phonics, literacy and numeracy intervention, and social-emotional learning programs
- Confidence in adapting tasks and supporting student engagement under teacher direction
Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability, and other complex learning needs across all years of Kindergarten to Year 6 will be highly regarded. Applicants with experience of Zones of Regulation, Restorative Practices, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices are encouraged to apply.
