Education Assistant - Special Needs – Department of Education, Western Australia. We are establishing a pool for permanent and fixed-term, part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Kalamunda Senior High School (SHS) has a long history of providing a quality education and offers a range of programs including Gifted and Talented Visual Arts, languages (Italian, Indonesian and Japanese), Outdoor Education, Music and school-based Performing Arts. The RoleSuitable applicants will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. They should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers to create and maintain an inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of students. An understanding and regular use of safe work practices is highly regarded.
To succeed in this role, you should be organized and able to use your initiative to assist teachers with the general care and wellbeing of students and the maintenance of the learning environment. You should be capable of working under general supervision and autonomously, and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement. We are seeking applicants who are committed to enhancing students' learning opportunities using differentiation, intervention and engagement strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum.

EligibilityTo work with us, you must:

- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team in evaluating educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills to assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs and feedback to professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
