The opportunity

Play a key role in resolving complex people matters at Australia's national science agency.

We're looking for a skilled HR professional with workplace investigation experience to join CSIRO's Workplace Relations team to provides specialist advice and support on complex workplace matters.

A s the Senior People Advisor/Employee Relations (Case Management Specialist), you'll play a key role in managing sensitive employee issues including misconduct, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Reporting to the Case Management Manager, you'll conduct fair and thorough investigations, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and guide leaders through resolution processes.

Your human resources experience and investigation expertise will help uphold CSIRO's workplace standards and foster a safe, respectful environment for all.

Suitable candidates will have a strong Human Resources Case Management background and awareness/experience working within Government will be highly regarded.

Your high-level duties will include:


• Manage and conduct impartial and thorough workplace investigations into complex employee matters

• Provide clear, concise advice and risk assessments to senior leaders across CSIRO

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Industrial Relations, Health & Wellbeing, and Integrity to resolve issues

• Maintain accurate, confidential case records and ensure timely progress tracking and reporting

Role particulars

Location and office arrangements:

Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide or Hobart.
Hybrid working available. Other CSIRO locations may be considered.

Salary: AU$114,219 – AU$123,605 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

Tenure & work schedule:

Indefinite/Full Time

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and/or postgraduate qualification in Human Resource Management, Business Management, Industrial Relations, Employment Law or other relevant discipline.
  • Specialised workplace investigation qualifications.
  • At least 5 years' demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations or related regulatory investigations
    • Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, policies, and guidance material, particularly whilst encountering frequent ambiguity. A history of supporting and guiding management through complex and sensitive people matters.
      • Superior judgement and reasoning capability, and a demonstrated ability to maintain independence and apply a risk management approach to complex matters
        • Superior written and verbal communication skills including influencing and negotiation to interact with a diverse range of key stakeholders across CSIRO.
        • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards, respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
        Desirable
        • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations or related regulatory investigations within a government organisation.
        • Demonstrated ability to assess complex situations and provide sound, evidence-based recommendations.
        • High-level interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, manage sensitive conversations, and influence outcomes
        • Ability to deal with difficult or high-conflict situations in a calm and professional manner
