Earth Observation Program Support Officer
Geoscience Australia has established the Earth Observation (EO) Program to holistically manage, govern, and deliver EO capability. The EO capability will make available time-series, continental scale data and insights of the Australian landscape and environment to inform decision making about Australia's resources and environment by Australian government, industry and the community. The EO Program includes Australia/United States partnership on Landsat and Landsat Next, Digital Earth Australia, and collaboration nationally and internationally on standards, technology, and science.
Our teamThe Earth Observation Program Management Office (EO PMO) within Space Division provides specialist advice and program management services to facilitate delivery, governance and assurance and whole-of-life capability management of Geoscience Australia's Earth Observation Program. The EO PMO supports Chief of Space Division and its two Branches, Satellite Land Imaging Collection (SLIC) Branch and Digital Earth (DE) Branch, responsible for delivery of the Program. As a small team, the EO PMO combines diverse skillsets including procurement and commercial, scheduling, financial management, project and program management, engineering, and governance to deliver the services.
The roleAs a key member of the EO PMO team, the EO Program Support Officer will support the delivery of Program management activities and advice across the Program, including support to the Assistant Director EO Governance & Assurance and the Assistant Director PMO Services. This will include a range of project management, governance, reporting and secretariat support activities for the EO Program. This is a newly established role in a growing and new Program, with the opportunity to build functions applying your own knowledge of best practices.
The EO Program Support Officer will support the delivery of key governance boards, including internal steering committees and the externally-facing EO Program Board, as well support stakeholder relationships. As the EO Program Support Officer, you will lead and drive compliance and engagement across the two Branches of the EO Program and build key relationships at multiple levels to deliver strong program fundamentals, governance and secretariat processes. The EO Program Support Officer will present new and innovative ways of working and bring a drive for continuous improvement, bringing strong experience and best practice knowledge in project management, governance and secretariat support functions to the newly established role.

Responsibilities- In this role you will:
- coordinate and deliver governance and assurance activities across the Earth Observation Program, including development and maintenance of risk registers, assurance plans, and undertaking assurance activities;
- undertake program and project management activities in support of the Program Services Manager, providing planning, reporting, project management and other required services as part of the management of Geoscience Australia's Earth Observation capability;
- provide effective secretariat support to internal and external governance forums, including coordination, agenda development, board packs & briefing materials, minute taking and action tracking;
- prepare high-quality reports, performance dashboards, and other artefacts to support oversight, decision-making and internal accountability across the program;
- support the design, implementation and ongoing improvement of program management processes and procedures, including risk registers, performance frameworks, and issue management;
- monitor, manage, and report program risks and engage with stakeholders across the program to support risk management reporting and capability uplift;
- monitor and track the implementation of assurance activities, audit recommendations, and program-level actions to ensure delivery and closure;
- maintain accurate records and ensure all governance and reporting artefacts are stored and managed in accordance with information management requirements;
- manage competing priorities and self-direct work-flows in line with strategic directions and organisational goals and objectives; and
- actively contribute to a supportive and collaborative working environment in the EO Program.
- have strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a complex program environment;
- have demonstrated experience in managing programs and/or projects in government or industry;
- demonstrate sound judgment and attention to detail in developing reports, artefacts and documentation that support effective governance and assurance;
- communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally, adapting messages for different audiences and purposes;
- possess strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate clearly and to nurture productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
- show initiative and curiosity, proactively identifying areas for improvement and offering solutions to enhance governance and reporting functions;
- operate as a collaborative team member, contributing to a positive team culture and engaging constructively with a wide range of stakeholders;
- possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines;
- adhere to the Australian Public Service Values and the Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way; and
- demonstrate alignment with Geoscience Australia's values and commitment to flexible and inclusive work practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing or supporting a secretariat function, senior meetings, external functions or engagements and other such organisational functions;
- Demonstrated experience in Program Management Office and/or Project Management functions;
- Demonstrated organisational skills, self-drive, initiative and ability to work under pressure;
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
