Studio Schools of Australia (SSA) was established in 2019 to bring about a "system" level change in secondary education for Indigenous students in remote communities across northern Australia. This "system level" reform is based on well-established evidence of what works for Indigenous students, their families, and communities, in a scalable, proven work-related model of education introduced at the Yiramalay / Wesley Studio School in the Kimberley, Western Australia, in 2010.

SSA's mission is to enable Indigenous students to lead their own advancement and to take a valuable and meaningful place in their own communities and within Australia.

SSA is committed to being a child safe environment, and we actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all students. All staff are committed to protecting students from abuse or harm in the school environment.

Overview

The Wellbeing Services Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the holistic development, health, and wellbeing of students. This involves working closely with the Principal, the school nurse, the female and male senior residential mentors, teachers, parents/carers, and community members to ensure that all students are provided with appropriate opportunities to reach their full potential.

The Wellbeing Services Coordinator reports to the Principal and works closely with them to maintain high levels of pastoral care, strong community relationships, and a positive school environment characterised by high-expectations relationships. A key component of this role is the provision of evidence-informed wellbeing support and the coordination of services to meet student needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with external organisations to support the wellbeing needs of individual students and cohorts of students.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of individualised wellbeing and care plans for each student, in collaboration with the Principal and the wider staff team.
  • Completing assessments, where appropriate on site, and liaising with external organisations to support further assessments where required.
  • Supporting the leadership team in applications for government funding to support the needs of individual students.
  • Advising the Principal on high-level or complex student matters in a timely manner, including on enrolment applications.
  • Participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) process, including the accurate recording and maintenance of evidence required for students receiving adjustments.
  • Developing and nurturing strong community links and trusting relationships with families through regular phone calls, home visits, community events, the reporting system, and other opportunities, with support from the wider staff team.
  • Maintaining accurate records of assessments, interventions, conversations, and programs.
  • Other duties as reasonably requested by the Principal.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a commitment to supporting Indigenous students to flourish.
  • Proven ability to build positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
  • High-level organisational, administrative, and communication skills, including accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with complex student needs, including students requiring adjustments under the NCCD, and to respond using evidence-based approaches.
  • Commitment to student wellbeing and individualised care planning, with the ability to liaise effectively with external providers.
  • Confidence in advocacy, collaboration, and professional practice in dynamic school and community contexts.
  • Qualifications in Adolescent Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or equivalent.

Employment

Due to Australian immigration regulations, applicants must have Australian work rights. We especially welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Applicants will be required to provide a current WA Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check (NPC).

All appointments at Studio Schools of Australia are subject to child protection legislation and pre-employment screening.

Salary: Negotiable based on experience.
