Today, it is a trusted manufacturer of milk replacers, bird foods, treats, and nutritional supplements used by wildlife carers, veterinarians, zoos, sanctuaries, breeders, and institutional research programs. Notable users include major zoos, bird parks, and endangered species recovery initiatives in Australia and overseas. Built on decades of scientific expertise, the company remains a leader in advancing animal nutrition for both domestic and conservation purposes.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and commercially astute General Manager to lead this respected brand into its next phase of growth. In this role, you will oversee operations, drive sales expansion, and serve as a key representative in both domestic and international markets.
You will combine strong business leadership with technical credibility, ensuring the organisation maintains its reputation for quality and industry expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development:
- Drive sales growth across domestic and international markets.
- Expand and manage B2B distributor networks, independent retailers, and institutional customers.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with key accounts and industry partners.
- Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events.
Technical Credibility & Product Advocacy:
- Develop a deep understanding of the science behind the company's product range.
- Communicate technical product benefits to a variety of stakeholders—from wildlife carers to zoo nutritionists.
- Leverage credibility to influence purchasing decisions and advocate for the brand.
Leadership & Operations:
- Lead and inspire a team of 15+ employees, including blue-collar production staff.
- Maintain full P&L accountability and deliver commercial targets.
- Ensure operational efficiency and quality standards in manufacturing and distribution.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience:
Hard Skills:
- Sales Acumen: Proven track record in sales, ideally in animal health, nutrition, veterinary supplies, or agribusiness.
- B2B Relationship Management: Experience managing distributor networks and large customer accounts.
- Technical Credibility: Ability to understand and confidently explain complex animal nutrition concepts.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing teams with full P&L responsibility, ideally in manufacturing, trade, or B2B services.
Soft Skills:
- Growth-oriented and motivated to scale the business.
- Hands-on operator who leads by example.
- Humble and credible communicator, equally comfortable speaking with field staff and C-suite executives.
- Commercially pragmatic with strong decision-making skills.
- Autonomous yet accountable, able to operate under central financial guidance.
Location & Travel Requirements:
- Primarily based in South Australia.
- Domestic travel and occasional international travel required.
- Relocation support may be considered for interstate candidates.
- Overseas-based candidates will only be considered if they are Australian citizens or residents relocating back to Adelaide.
