Overview

The Council is seeking an inspiring and forward-thinking Chief People Officer to lead the People and Safety function and shape the employee experience of today and tomorrow.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief People Officer (CPO) will lead and develop a high-performing People and Safety unit encompassing People Services, Industrial Relations & Business Advisory, Safety & Wellbeing, and People Systems & Data. This role will drive contemporary people and safety strategies that enhance the employee experience, strengthen workplace culture, and align with Council\'s Team Melton transformation agenda.

Responsibilities
  • Lead People & Culture Transformation and drive contemporary people and safety strategies
  • Partner with Leaders across Council to champion operational excellence
  • Provide trusted, data-driven advice on workforce planning, organisational design, employee wellbeing, and workplace relations
  • Embed best-practice frameworks and deliver technological and process innovations
  • Lead and develop a high-performing People and Safety team (People Services, Industrial Relations & Business Advisory, Safety & Wellbeing, People Systems & Data)
Qualifications and Experience
  • Strategic, people-focused senior leader with experience leading change in large, complex organisations
  • Extensive experience in leading people, culture, and safety functions within diverse workforces
  • Proven expertise in industrial relations and working effectively with unions
  • Track record of delivering organisational transformation and continuous improvement
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills; able to build trust and influence at all levels
  • Tertiary qualifications are essential, postgraduate study highly regarded
