The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Reporting to the Senior Accreditation Policy Advisor, the Policy and Project Officer contributes to policy development, including work related to implementation of accreditation arrangements and the workplan of the Ahpra Board Accreditation Committee. The role also undertakes policy and project work to deliver on other key multi-profession accreditation policy initiatives.

In this fixed-term (until 31 December 2025) role you will:

  • Create documents for projects related to multi-profession accreditation policy, including planning, communication, and implementation materials.
  • Research and develop policies to support the rollout of accreditation processes and other key initiatives, following the agreed workplans.
  • Develop reports and papers for meetings when required, and ensure meeting decisions are documented and followed up on time.
  • Identify and resolve problems that develop during project delivery, and escalate issues related to risk or complexity when required.
  • Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of procedures and practices related to accreditation policy and projects
  • Consult with relevant stakeholders to obtain relevant information for research and policy work, and use consultation tools to ensure discussions are smooth and effective.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following skills:

  • Strong experience in policy development, ideally in health regulation, education, or accreditation
  • Flexibility and resilience, the ability to adapt to changing priorities and to work under pressure
  • Advanced research and analytical skills, excellent organisational and time management skills, the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Advanced written communication skills including experience drafting policy, writing reports and recommendations, and preparing agenda papers
  • Excellent verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing abilities
  • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with sound judgment and ability to escalate issues when needed
