Job Description

The establishment of formal data management and data governance functions in accordance with industry best practices (e.g. DAMA DMBOK) as part of maturing organisation-wide data capability with a specific focus on the business intelligence function. The BI team requires a review and enhancement of documentation governing the approach and plans for management of the data created, stored and curated by the team. These documents should be scalable for implementation across the organisation and establish a firm foundation in the rigour and processes of the function moving forward.

Through this engagement, the focus will be to build and document a data governance framework, with policies and templates for data management to support key activities.

In establishing a sustainable and fit-for-purpose Data Governance approach, key deliverables may involve:

  • Review existing governance arrangements and establish oversight structures and a data governance framework.
  • Develop policies and procedures for data management to support the framework.
  • Identify opportunities and risks and recommend actions to manage and mitigate.
  • Define roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop formalised data policies and procedures in areas including data retention and disposal, cataloguing data, data quality management, and releasing data.
  • Adopt a rigorous but light-touch governance approach, scaled for the organisation and flexible for a small dynamic team; develop additional artefacts to support effective data management.
  • Uplift business requirements management processes to enable more effective, efficient, targeted business outcomes and develop mature data products to satisfy and automate statutory reporting obligations.
  • Engage a consultancy to: gather and document stakeholder requirements (based on industry best practices such as BABOK), review BI products, design a development pipeline, define governance processes for new data projects, develop internal data use cases and personas, and deliver training.
  • Deliverables include: review/update of Business Requirement Specification documents, stakeholder interviews/workshops, holistic review of dashboards/reports against requirements, development pipeline design, and documentation of the build process.
Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrated understanding of the services required, including identification of key challenges and principles.
  • Demonstrated experience providing similar services to those described.
