Paediatric Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
We are recruiting for a permanent band 6 role within the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team in Knowsley.
You will be responsible for ensuring service users' needs are met through delivery of high quality care, working collaboratively in variety of settings including patients homes, schools, nurseries, family hubs or clinics.
You will be supported to provide assessment & appropriate interventions in the management of paediatric conditions, offering a range of 1 : 1 & group based interventions, training and programmes of care.
Caseloads are likely to include children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs .
Access regular 1 : 1 and group supervision and. You will be supported to develop your skills in offering supervision and have involvement in supervision of students.

Main duties of the job
Undertake assessment in a variety of clinical settings. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the evidence base and a range of treatment options to formulate individualised and holistic treatment programmes within the parameters of the service.
A duty to evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes seeking support from senior colleagues within the team.
Demonstrate flexibility to respond to the needs of the service and be responsible for a designated area of work. Plan and organise efficiently and effectively your patient / client caseload and non patient responsibilities.
The post holder will contribute to the continuing professional development within the team accessing learning opportunities and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
You will be required to participate in the annual Personal Achievement Contribution Evaluation (PACE).

Job responsibilities
CLINICAL
To utilise a variety of formal, informal, observational and play based assessment tools and interpret these appropriately with confidence to seek support where required.
To implement care / intervention based on research and demonstrate evidence based practice.
To maintain a early years and school aged caseload.
To provide professional clinical advice and demonstrate intervention approaches and activities to patients, carers and colleagues within education.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE / RESEARCH AUDIT
Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to own work situation
Assist in developing a continuous improvement and evidence based culture within the Service
COMMUNICATION
To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise potential and to ensure understanding of their condition and goals.
The post holder will demonstrate sensitivity and empathy when communicating with patients and carers and seek support from colleagues in order to best manage challenging situations.
To communicate effectively with all those involved in patient care. This will include forms of verbal / written report writing, referrals to other agencies.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
- Accredited Speech and Language Therapy qualification (BSc)
- Registration with relevant Registering Body e.g. HCPC
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist (RCSLT)
- Post graduate training / qualification in Dysphagia
