Overview

Join our team of dedicated Virtual Health Clinicians and provide guidance to Australians with health concerns through the Healthdirect Helpline (Nurse-on-Call in Victoria). The Helpline is open 24/7 and offers health-related advice over the phone.

Responsibilities
  • Provide health information and assess symptoms.
  • Conduct comprehensive telephone assessments.
  • Recommend the appropriate time and place of care.
  • Refer callers to other services such as the GP Helpline, Urgent Care Clinics, and Virtual Emergency Departments.
About You

You are a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse, driven by a passion for delivering exceptional virtual care. You aim to make a difference by providing early, appropriate support to Australians with healthcare needs and reducing avoidable strain on emergency services by connecting consumers to the right care at the right time, the first time.

  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of 3 years.
  • At least 3 years of full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse.
  • A varied nursing background involving substantial public contact, including but not limited to complex primary health, acute medical, or emergency department settings.
  • Confidence in applying critical thinking and clinical judgment in high-pressure situations across all age groups and clinical presentations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with compassion and professionalism, including interacting with external services and serving vulnerable populations with high rates of mental health issues, limited English proficiency, elderly, and low health literacy.
  • A high affinity for using computer systems, telehealth platforms, databases, and digital communication tools.
  • Ability to work in a flexible, home-based environment.
  • Must be located within Australia.
