In this role, you'll become a Road Safety Hero held in high esteem in our communities and vital to the safety of our kids, parents, teachers, and local motorists. You'll also have the opportunity to become a familiar face around the school and touch the lives of countless families.

Shifts at Smithfield West Public School fall between 8:00 – 9:30 AM and 2:30 – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon. School Crossings require 25 hours of supervising per fortnight.

You will receive an hourly rate with superannuation, and you will be compensated during school holidays from Terms 1 to 3.

You're a community-minded person who would like to contribute. You enjoy building community relationships, keeping kids safe, and earning a weekly wage for doing something you love. You're reliable and prepared to show up for your community in all weather. You'll display effective communication skills and be alert to potential dangers.

Requirements & recruitment
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • All training, uniforms and equipment will be provided.
  • Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check, Reference Checks, Police Check, and a Health Assessment is vital due to working with children on roads.
  • If you already have a Working with Children Check, that will speed up the process.
  • Assistance through the onboarding process is available if you have not completed these steps before.

Recruitment timeline

To ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process, here is an overview of the timeline:

  • Applications are reviewed by the talent team. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the week commencing 8th September 2025 for a quick 5–10 minute phone interview, followed by panel interviews.
  • If successful, you will progress to pre-employment checks.
  • Applications close at 11:59pm on Sunday 7th September 2025.

A Talent Pool may be created for current and future casual and permanent part-time positions over the next 18 months. If you are deemed suitable at interview and a vacancy arises, you may be contacted to complete pre-employment checks.
