The Opportunity:John Holland continues to secure projects in the Civil and Water industries, along with pursuing opportunities in the renewables sector. To drive performance and ensure our business remains sustainable, we are currently seeking expressions of interest for the role of General Manager – Commercial. Preferably based in Melbourne or Sydney, this role will report to the EGM Infrastructure and support the national Infrastructure business unit in achieving its strategic commercial objectives. Key accountabilities within this role include:
- Oversee the development and implementation of sustainable and effective commercial strategies
- Lead and develop the Infrastructure commercial team, ensuring the commerciality of all projects and the ongoing sustainability of its portfolio
- Undertake high level contract and tender reviews and provide authoritative advice to the Pre-contracts and operations teams on matters relating to commercial opportunities and risks associated
- Provide regular management reports to Executive stakeholders against key measures and indicators
- Support and lead the commercial team to negotiate contract terms and conditions with customers/subcontractors inline with the overarching commercial strategy of the business
- In partnership with Executives and the Senior Leadership team develop commercial strategies and policies that will have business unit-wide application
To be successful in this role, we are seeking applicants that possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce, Accounting or Quantity Surveying
- Demonstrated experience managing large portfolios and teams in similar Senior Commercial roles, gained on construction, engineering or associated industries
- Expert skills in procedures for project contract administration, general business administration and project management
- Strong leadership skills, capable of driving team output, developing/mentoring aspiring commercial leaders.
- Skills in quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
- Expert negotiation skills
- Experience in interpreting contract clauses and drafting appropriate commercial clauses.
