Job DescriptionBrisbane Domestic Violence Service(BDVS)is Brisbane's specialist domestic violence service, funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free, confidential support to adults and children affected by domestic and family violence. Operating 24/7 across the region, we deliver crisis and case management, outreach, groups, safety planning, court support, programs for men who use violence, and education on DFV dynamics. Leading the Brisbane Region High Risk Team and fostering cross-agency partnerships, BDVS works within an integrated response framework to ensure consistent support for victims and accountability for perpetrators, while valuing diverse relationships, family structures, and individual circumstances.
As a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Advocate in the Safer Triage and Response team, you will play a key role in BDVS's First Response, providing immediate support to women and others affected by domestic and family violence. You will undertake comprehensive intake and complex risk assessments, develop crisis safety plans, and make appropriate internal and external referrals for follow-up support. Your work will include providing information on legal options, housing assistance, and other identified services, delivering culturally sensitive and trauma-informed support, and representing BDVS at court. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, integrated response, maintain accurate case notes and data, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive service environment.
This is a permanent full time employment opportunity at Level 4 of the SCHADS Award.
Desired Skills and ExperienceKey Responsibilities
- Provide crisis response, risk assessments, safety planning, and intake for DFV referrals.
- Deliver culturally sensitive, trauma-informed support and advocacy.
- Facilitate referrals to legal, housing, health, and community services.
- Represent BDVS at court, providing information, safe space management, and advocacy.
- Work collaboratively within an integrated, multi-agency DFV response.
- Extensive experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning.
- In-depth knowledge of DFV theory, practice, and relevant legislation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with government and community services.
- Strong cultural competence and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Proficient in IT systems, data management, and maintaining accurate client records.
- Knowledge of cross-disciplinary DFV response models.
- Experience representing clients in court or similar legal settings.
