Overview

Practitioner - DFV Case Management role at Centacare Brisbane is a permanent full-time position based in Fortitude Valley. Some flexibility is required to meet operational needs. The role provides case management for families engaged in the Domestic and Family Violence Supported Accommodation Program, working with diverse families with complex needs to achieve their goals.

Responsibilities
  • Make initial contact with families who have experienced domestic and family violence following receipt of a referral. Complete client intakes, including initial risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Provide ongoing case management for families housed through the Centacare DFV supported accommodation program.
  • Support families to identify goals and immediate needs to increase safety, agency and autonomy and to sustain tenancy.
  • Work within Trauma Informed and Brief Solution Focused frameworks; advocacy on behalf of clients, making referrals, providing psychoeducation and counselling, and other practical assistance as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and liaise with other local stakeholders (e.g., Child Safety, Corrections, Housing, QPS).
Skills And Experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution (including eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA).
  • Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act and Family Law Act, and the associated impacts on families.
  • Articulation of a well-developed practice framework for domestic and family violence and its nexus with child safety, family law and mental health.
  • Experience in intake, risk assessment, case management and referral pathways, crisis intervention, DVO assistance and safety planning.
  • Strong written work, including report writing, case notes, data collection and data entry; high computer literacy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate for clients' needs with other statutory organisations/departments.
  • Professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs; availability for some after-hours work.
  • Understanding and experience of working within the housing sector regarding domestic and family violence; knowledge of working with complex family systems, high-acrimony environments, trauma, mental health, and related issues.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in supporting families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Essential requirements
  • Current Blue Card or eligibility to apply.
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Working rights in Australia.
