About the role

This is a rare, fully remote opportunity for an experienced accountant to join a successful accounting firm as Bookkeeping Manager. Working as part of a collaborative team, you\'ll oversee and manage a remote team of talented bookkeepers, ensuring high-quality and compliant financial record‑keeping. You'll review delegated tasks, manage workflows, and support continuous process improvements while maintaining strong governance.

While the accounting firm is based in Brisbane, this is a fully remote opportunity. You can be based anywhere in Australia, as long as you have a high-speed and stable internet connection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide training to remote team members in line with established internal processes
  • Manage and delegate work across the remote bookkeeping team
  • Review and approve work completed by remote team members in line with established internal processes
  • Provide mentorship and performance feedback
Work Allocation & Quality Control
  • Review completed work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Ensure tasks meet Australian bookkeeping standards and deadlines
  • Adapt to practice management systems for task management
Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports and assist with reconciliations, BAS, payroll, superannuation, and tax filings
  • Create and follow working papers
  • Ensure compliance with Australian regulations and accounting standards
  • Nurturing client relationships, acting as the key contact for a subset of clients
  • Act as liaison between offshore team, internal stakeholders, and external advisors/auditors
  • Maintain strong communication channels and provide updates
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience in an Australian background
  • Proven experience managing teams, ideally including offshore staff
  • Proficiency in Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and other relevant software
  • Strong knowledge of Australian tax (BAS/IAS), payroll, superannuation, and compliance practices
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational ability, and communication skills
  • Degree in Accounting or relevant certification (CPA / BAS Agent / equivalent) preferred
